How To Change Out The Mixer Taps In A Kitchen

Posted on Thursday, December 9, 2010 in Real Estate

A water tap is a valve which is used to control water temperature. The mixer taps are found commonly in most residential and commercial buildings, in the kitchens and bathrooms generally. The hot and cold water is mixed in the pipes together and the taps allow them to be able to be poured out at nearly any temperature. The valves are useful, they can incorporate a pressure balance that ensures the warmth of a valve’s water can’t be affected by another’s.

The taps, which are integral parts of all businesses and homes, are prone to leakage and rust over time. To save themselves gallons of wasted water and lots of money, homeowners should monitor theirs and replace them when necessary. The taps and faucets can be removed and replaced with more updated and modern designs as well. Although to some it can seem like a daunting and difficult task, most will be successful in completing the job on their own easily.

The first act is to take out the old faucet. Shut off the water supply to your bathroom, through a handle on the water heater, and drain out any water that is residing in the pipes. Turn both valves on and leave them on for a couple of minutes to make sure no water remains.

Under the sink, open the cabinet doors next and then disconnect the taps from their tubings. They should easily unscrew without any help but tough cases may require a wrench. The water supply will need to be disconnected as well.

The drainage pipe is located at the sink pipe’s bottom and will most likely need to be removed due to its rust. Remove the drain cover and set it aside. Most people prefer to install new drains when they replace their faucet. As it ensures the pieces will have a matching finish. Now the faucet of the sink can also be removed. Spread a clean towel down on the floor, setting all of the pieces on it as they are removed will help keep your workspace dry and clean.

Put the new faucet in the allowed space and fasten them from under the counter. Being sure to align the taps up perfect, place them and tighten them too. Be sure all the parts are rightfully in place and then hook up the water supply and other tubes to the valves.

Next, carefully connect the tubes to the drain that’s under the counter. Make sure the fixtures are completely sealed to avoid spills and leaks. Use your towel to wipe off any excess water on the outside of the pipes before you close the cabinets.

Lastly, you can now put the water on in the room again and begin testing out your finished work. Allow the water to run for a few minutes while you look over the pipes and rubber hoses for detrimental leaks or weak spots. Pay very close attention to all sized weak areas in the valve’s main draining pipe

Selecting mixer taps in your bathroom or kitchen allows you to adjust the water temperature safely and precisely. There is no chance of burning your hands as you get your kitchen taps adjusted correctly.
