Professional hockey players from the former Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia are now ubiquitous, but Stan Mikita was something of a pioneer. The Chicago Blackhawks legend was sometimes relegated to secondary status behind more telegenetic stars like teammate Bobby Hull, but you can make a very good case that Mikita was the best NHL forward of the’60′s. He was born in Sokolce, in what is now known as Slovakia. In the conflict torn years prior to WW II, he was sent to Canada and adopted by an aunt and uncle. Like most young Canadian boys, he started playing hockey and quickly exhibited significant talent at the country’s national sport.

He was a star in the juniors as a teenager, playing with the St. Catherine Teepees of the Ontario Hockey Association. By’60, he was a full time player for the NHL Chicago Blackhawks and would lead the team in playoff scoring during their Stanley Cup winning year of’61.

During the early and mid’60′s, Mikita’s Blackhawks were the most feared offensive team in the NHL. Mikita centered the Scooter Line with Ken Wharram on the right wing and Ab McDonald or Doug Mohns on the left wing, and earned a reputation as one of the most complete offensive players in the game.

Mikitas influence wasnt limited to offensive output”he was a feared defensive player and considered one of the best faceoff men in the game. He also brought about one of the most significant innovations in NHL history, being the first to play with a curved stick blade. This was a very radical modification at the time, but was quickly copied throughout the league to the point where today a player that *doesnt* play with a curved stick is considered something of an anachronism.

When he first came to the NHL, Mikita was a tough, hard hitting player who spent a considerable amount of time in the penalty box. That changed in the mid’60′s when he became a very sportsmanlike player almost overnight. This cleaner style of play would earn him the Lady Byng Trophy for most gentlemanly player twice. The story goes that he had a change of heart when his young daughter asked why he spent so much time sitting in the box on televised games.

Mikitas career accomplishments are among the most impressive in the history of the sport. He won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHLs leading scorer four times (1964,’65,’67,’68), the Hart Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Player twice (1967 and’68) and the Lady Byng Trophy in’67 and’68. He remains the only player in NHL history to win the Ross, Hart and Byng trophies in the same season (1967).

Mikita suffered from chronic back ailments later in his career, and finally retired in’80 having played his entire career for the Chicago Blackhawks. He was voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility (1983) and became enshrined in pop culture history a few years later thanks to the movie ‘Wayne’s World’. In the movie, protagonists Wayne and Garth frequently hang out at a donut shop based on the Canadian Tim Hortons chain. The name of the shop is Stan Mikitas Donuts.

Rashad Evans was fighting for respect. He didn’t scream about demanding respect in his prefight interviews because hes smart enough to know that respect must be earned. He earned it and then some with a devastating 2nd round TKO of Chuck Liddell in the main event of UFC 88: Breakthrough.

If Evans needed any more validation of how little respect he was getting, he could have taken a look at the UFCs text message prediction poll of the main event which favored The Iceman by a whopping 81% to 19% margin. Or he could have listened to the UFC announcers, who had all but penciled Liddell in for a return to light heavyweight title contention after his inevitable victory. Instead of complain, Evans let his fists do the talking and with a perfectly placed overhand right will likely never have to worry about a lack of respect again.

From the opening horn, Evans showed no fear of Liddells once legendary power. Instead, he danced and moved (which was dumbly criticized as showboating by the UFC announce team), using his slick footwork and speed to dart in and out of range of Liddells punches. In the process, he was able to use his superior handspeed to get off first. His punches werent exactly highlight reel power shots at this point, but were nonetheless effective as evidenced by a cut opened under Liddells eye.

The end was to come in the 2nd round. Liddell backed Evans up near the cage wall and went to throw an uppercut. Simultaneously, Evans responded with an overhand right that landed quicker, harder and more accurately. The perfectly placed punch knocked Liddell out cold and referee Herb Dean jumped in to cover him up and wave off the fight without taking a second look.

Rashad Evans raised his record to 17-0-1 with the TKO victory. Liddell, meanwhile, saw his record drop to 21-6.

Liddells loss notwithstanding, it was a good night for UFC veterans as Rich Franklin and Dan Henderson won their fights in impressive fashion. Franklin looked particularly sharp in dismantling tough Matt Hamill, eventually prevailing by 3rd round TKO.

This was the UFCs first trip to Atlanta and despite a good attendance the crowd itself was somewhat disappointing. In a marked contrast to the knowledgeable and enthusiastic fans at the Target Center in Minneapolis for UFC 87″arguably the best MMA crowd ever at a US venue”the live crowd at Phillips Arena often acted as if they were at a taping of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Every foreign fighter was booed mercilessly”including South Korean Kim. Perhaps the audience didnt realize that South Korea has been a US ally since its establishment after WW II.

More problematic was the crowds utter lack of respect for the fighters postfight. Poor Dong Hyun Kim was booed during his postfight interview–not quite the respect that a 4th degree judo black belt whod just won a very tough fight deserves. Kims treatment by the fans cant be written off as a reaction to a close split decision victory; Rashad Evans was booed after his victory over Liddell, and short of decapitating The Iceman there was no way his win could have been more decisive.

The Edmonton Eskimos survived a wild back and forth CFL shootout against the Calgary Stampeders before prevailing 38-35 to take over sole possession of first place in the CFL West. Ricky Ray hit Fred Stamps with a 23 yard touchdown pass with just nine seconds to play to earn the victory, erasing the lead that Calgary had earned with their own TD pass less than a half minute earlier.

Winning QB Ricky Ray said that he enjoyed playing in the shootout:

“That was a ton of fun. In the CFL you get to play in a lot of games like this, especially against a guy like (Calgary quarterback Henry) Burris, who has done this to us. It’s great to come out on the winning end of a shoot-out like that. It’s a great uplift for the team. It’s a huge win for us.”

With a bye week on deck, Eskimos head coach Richie Hall said that the win couldn’t have come at a better time:

“Regardless of what happens, we are coming back in first place. Now we have one up on Calgary. It’s going to be a dogfight for all the teams in the West and any chance you get to win, especially a win like this, it’s a real bonus. It’s great for our confidence.”

Calgarys Burris remembered a very similar game last year:

“They got us last year in this situation and of course you didn’t think it was going to happen again or even could happen again. It felt so great to get that late touchdown and with 38 seconds on the clock nobody was even thinking about last year. We had to stop Jackson and we didn’t. And we had to stop Ray and we didn’t. Kudos to Edmonton.”

Calgary returns to action on Aug. 28 in Toronto while the Eskimos will next play on Aug. 29 when they host Hamilton. The two CFL provincial rivals from Alberta will face each other twice more this season.

Until Sunday, it looked as if the return of Brett Favre to the NFL would have a storybook ending and propel the Minnesota Vikings to the Superbowl. Instead, the New Orleans Saints will be heading to the Superbowl for the first time in franchise history. Garrett Hartley nailed a 40 yard field goal in overtime to give the Saints a 31-28 victory in the NFC Championship game after Brett Favre was intercepted deep in Saints territory during the final seconds of regulation. Favre may be headed back to retirement, while the Saints are headed to Miami to play the biggest game of them all.

The Vikings did reward NFL betting fans who took them as +4 underdogs with a pointspread cover. Minnesota finished the season a solid 11-6-1 against the NFL pointspread while the Saints head into the Superbowl with a 9-9 ATS mark. The 59 combined points scored went OVER the posted total of 53′.

After the game, head coach Sean Payton drew an analogy to the city of New Orleans’ recovery after Hurricane Katrina:

“This is for everybody in this city. This stadium used to have holes in it and used to be wet. It’s not wet anymore. This is for the city of New Orleans.”

Winning quarterback Drew Brees extended that same metaphor:

“In reality, we had to lean on each other in order to survive and in order to get where we are now. The city is on its way to recovery, and in a lot of ways has come back better than ever. We’ve used the strength and resiliency of our fans to go out and play every Sunday and play with the confidence that we can do it, that we can achieve everything we’ve set out to achieve.”

Place kicker Hartley was low key despite securing the victory with his overtime field goal:

“Just helping my team get to Miami. Just doing my part.”

Brett Favre didn’t have much to say in defeat:

“I’ve felt better. It was a physical game. A lot of hits. You win that and you sure feel a lot better.” Mississippi native Favre did throw his support behind the Saints:

“I would have loved to represent the NFC. But, as I told Sean throughout the year when we talked, if it’s not us, I hope it’s you guys.”

The Vikings gave up a total of five turnovers including three fumbles. That, said running back Adrian Peterson, was the game:

“We really gave those guys the game. Too many turnovers. It’s eating me up inside.

Astral projection is an ability that everyone has, whether they know it or not. Many people actually do it while sleeping, they are just not aware of it. If you want to learn to astral project, what you are actually learning is how to consciously do this so you can control where you go and what you do.

Assuming you already know what your astral body is and what the astral plane is, let’s learn a few different techniques that will help you astral project. When you astral project, you experience something extremely personal. Because of this, it is very important that you learn which techniques work best for you.

This first method is easy for most people, and you do it just as you are getting ready to fall asleep. It is a very simple five step technique.

*The first thing you want to do is get completely relaxed. You can’t astral project unless you achieve a deep level of relaxation. Lie down in bed, and begin with your toes. Tense them up for a few moments, then consciously relax every muscle. Do the same thing to every muscle, working your way up your body until you finish with your head and face. This may feel unfamiliar at first, but you will soon get used to this method of relaxation. Your body may feel rather heavy. This is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

*The next step is to take slow, deep breaths. You may want to try a meditation technique where you breathe in slowly and deeply, paying attention to the way it feels as the air comes into your lungs and moves through your body. Exhale slowly and completely, again paying attention to how it feels for the air to leave your body. Imagine all the tension leaving your body with each exhale. It is very important not to fall asleep. If you feel yourself drifting, focus on your forehead, right in the center.

*For step three, evaluate how your body feels. Is it heavy? Imagine your body is a lump of clay that does not move easily. Now, think of your astral body it feels so light. It is weightless floating free. Close your eyes and envision your astral self. It feels so light it could float easily like bubbles or feathers carried by a breeze. The contrast is the physical body feels very heavy, while the astral body feels light as a feather.

*This is the point when many people who prefer this astral projection technique say that they can see the dark room through their closed eyelids. They describe the room as being full of purple light. If you achieve this step, focus on the ceiling light.

*For the fifth step, imagine that you are pulling the ceiling light toward you. As you pull on the light, you will most likely feel like you are floating. It is very important to remain awake. Now that you are aware of the floating sensation, you may be able to look down on your sleeping physical body on the bed.

Wow you just had a successful astral projection session! Now you can begin astral traveling. If this method did not work well for you, try out the next one.

This method is called gazing. Try this at bedtime. You need something to focus on, such as a picture, the moon, a crystal, or some other object.

Now that you have your object, place it so you can see it easily when you are lying in bed. Focus on this object. As you continue to stare at it, you should feel your eyes getting heavy. Even though they get heavy, keep staring at the object. While your eyes will eventually close, you should still be able to see the object. As you continue to stare, you may feel like you want to sit up or even stand. As this happens, do not be surprised if you still see your physical body lying on the bed, asleep.

If these techniques don’t work for you the first couple of times, don’t get discouraged. Try them again. If they still don’t work, there are other methods to try. It is imperative that you don’t get frustrated. This will only cause anxiety and make it more difficult to relax completely so you can achieve a successful astral projection.

In fact it is vital you understand that whatever tools and techniques you try, the main stumbling block to successful astral projection is actually your own subconscious mind. You need to reassure your subconscious mind that it is perfectly okay for your spiritual body to leave your physical body. One way you can do this is by using affirmations. Once your subconscious mind understands this, then you will find astral projection easy!

There are a few short cuts you may try to help you achieve astral projection quickly. If you don’t use them, it may take a long time to create the proper state of mind for it to happen. If you do use them, you may find yourself successfully astral projecting after your very first try.

Hypnosis is a very good way to help you fully relax. If you use a quality guided hypnosis recording, it can also relieve you of any stress you may feel about forgetting one of the steps. A good recording will guide you right through, letting you relax and listen.

There have also been recent developments in sound technology with something called ‘binaural beats’ where different sound frequencies are played in each ear. This very quickly puts you into the deeply relaxed meditative state required for successful astral projection.

Astral projection is not as hard as many people think it is. Everyone is born with the natural ability to do this, and these tools and techniques help you develop this talent to its full ability. Give them a try and see what works best for you.

NFL betting enthusiasts who took New Orleans as -3 home favorites were confident that they’d be cashing a ticket by halftime as the Saints shot out to a 34-17 lead at the break. The Saints also remained perfect against the NFL pointspread at 5-0, while the Giants failed to cover for the first time this season and stand at 5-1 ATS.

After the game, Brees explained his team’s strategy:

“We wanted to really dictate the tempo of the game the whole way through. Seven different guys scored touchdowns. That’s big. That’s the type of rhythm that, when you get in, you feel like you can call anything and it’s going to work.”

The Saints are off to their best start since’93 and have yet to trail in a game this season. Still, head coach Sean Payton wasn’t entertaining talk that his team had established themselves as the presumptive Superbowl favorite:

“I don’t think you can talk about big pictures after game 5.”

Giants’ QB Eli Manning was looking forward to a homecoming of sorts-his father, Archie, played the same position for New Orleans during his NFL career. Suffice to say it didn’t go as he had planned:

“It’s not the way I imagined it during the week, but you’re going to encounter all sorts of games and all sorts of situations. I look at it as a loss. We need to go back to work this week, fix some things and try to improve.”

New York head coach Tom Coughlin marveled at the play of the Saints’ offensive line who gave Brees great protection all day long:

“I don’t know that we ever hit him. At this level, if you’re going to stop the pass, you’ve got to get pressure. You’ve got to force the quarterback not to throw it on his tempo.”

The Saints will now face the Miami Dolphins on the road, with New Orleans a -6 favorite and the total set at 47. After the trip to south Florida they’ll return home for a game against longtime rival Atlanta on Monday night football. The Giants return home to play the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night, with New York a -7 home favorite and the total set at 46. They’ll head to Philadelphia to play the Eagles next week before returning home for a date against the San Diego Chargers on November 8.

Betting preseason NFL games never fails to elicit an irreconcilable difference of opinion among sports betting enthusiasts. Some consider it a very poor wagering opportunity, while others maintain that there’s no better moneymaking opportunity in sports than pro football’s preseason. The truth is probably somewhere between the two extremes–NFL preseason betting must be approached with caution and discipline, but offers the potential to make a tidy profit before the regular season kicks off.

The most compelling argument against preseason wagering is simply that the games don’t count. While there are often spots during the regular season where teams may seem more or less motivated, in theory they all want to win. That’s not something that can be taken as a ‘given’ during the preseason, however, as the individual agendas of NFL coaching staffs can very widely. Some might want to win games to establish a winning attitude, others might put a greater focus on working in a new offensive or defensive scheme. Others may prioritize evaluating talent at key positions, while others may simply want to make it through to the regular season without any significant injuries. With all of the uncertainty swirling around preseason football, handicapping wins and losses against the pointspread can be exceedingly difficult.

But like the old saying goes “every dark cloud has a silver lining”. And the divergent agendas at play in preseason football can be seen as precisely why it is a good wagering opportunity. For example, say the Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers are set to play an ‘also ran’ team like the Houston Texans. By regular season standards, the Steelers would almost certainly be favored. In the preseason, however, they’ll often have a different agenda for the individual game. A “better” team has more concern about protecting key players. and usually has fewer personnel decisions to deal with. They don’t need to worry about implementing coaching changes, or creating ‘team chemistry’. As a result, ‘better’ teams frequently approach preseason games as a mere annoyance.

Now, lets look at the other side of the equation. A “lesser” team by regular season standards might have a number of starting spots or key backup spots up for grabs. They may have new coaches to impress, or new offensive or defensive coordinators whose schemes they’ll have to implement. Certainly, winning any games”whether or not they count in the standings”are of utmost importance to losing teams trying to turn things around. Finally, a bad team can gain a lot more psychologically from beating a playoff team than the playoff team can from beating a doormat. A struggling team that is destined to lose a lot during the regular season won’t have a lot of bright spots, so a preseason win against one of the league’s elite can mean a lot more.

Even teams that put a low priority on preseason games don’t want to lose them all. For this reason, a longterm winning situation has been to bet on teams that lose their first two preseason games outright. Over the past twenty years, 0-2 teams in this spot have produced a winning percentage right around 60%.

The philosophy of a NFL head coach is arguably the single most important factor contributing to preseason success. Some coaches always want to win, even if the games don’t count in the standings. Other coaches place a much greater importance on evaluating personnel and giving backups playing time they won’t have the opportunity to get during the regular season. The coaches that have a strong desire to win in the preseason often result in their team’s pointspreads being inflated somewhat, but a motivated team is always worth consideration for a wager.

One of the best tools that a handicapper has at his disposal during the preseason is the Internet. Actually, it’s a great tool year round but during the preseason it is invaluable. The best source of information on coaching philosophies, game plans, injuries, lineup changes, etc, are the local sports pages of NFL teams. Basically, the situation during preseason is that there is a lot of interest in the team and a lot of anxious beat writers looking to write stories. The problem is that there is little in the way of real news, and for that reason you’ll find the sort of minutiae on teams and players from which you can often extract relevant handicapping information. Even if there aren’t any nuggets of handicapping gold, you can at least get a feel for the coach’s goals for the game and the amount of playing time that key players will see. Sometimes coaches will come right out and say who will play at what juncture of the game, and will occasionally go on record that personnel decisions like evaluating all of the guys they’re considering for the backup defensive secondary jobs are more important than winning. Clearly, operating with this knowledge is a distinct advantage and operating without it can be fatal. There’s nothing more frustrating than betting on a team only to have them look like they could care less whether or not they win the game. During the preseason, however, it can frequently be prevented with some simple research and analysis.

In conclusion, there are certainly strong opportunities for profit in NFL preseason wagering but its essential to understand that it cannot be approached in the same manner as the regular season. And, as always, its important to remember that there will be more strong opportunities down the road and that discipline and rigor in handicapping is just as crucial in the preseason NFL as it is at any other time of the year.

The arrangement of birthday parties depends on the nature of the party and guests who will be invited to the party. There are some occasions that need organizing and by arranging the parties the event becomes memorable. Parties are a get-together of persons that have a good time in the company of others.

Parents usually want to arrange the birthday party of their kids in an unusual manner, which makes their kids cheerful. Kids usually have high expectations from their parents when they are arranging their birthday party. Their birthday party is usually different from the adult birthday party in many respects.

For organization of a birthday party, the most important thing is selection of venue. The venue for the kids’ party must be a known place, like home, because children are relaxed at home and can enjoy more at home. The venue for adults’ party can be a place outside the home where they can celebrate the birthday in their own way.

The party of kids is usually full of fun, but when it comes to the adult party, there is of course more freedom, and excitement to happen. However, adult birthday party is quite more mature and sober than that of kids. Much crazier, and if kids are not allowed, the party may go wild. Party theme is quite mature in adult birthday party, and the party of kids usually got a theme of fun, and excitement, and incorporates childish attitude.

Place of birthday party may also differ for adult and kids. Kids like to have their birthday party at home, or in fun houses. However, adults have a number of choices in this regard. Adult birthday party can be in casinos, on beach, or several places where they really have fun, and rock the party. An adult birthday party can be arranged at any place where they have really fun. However, for the birthday party of kids, there is less option from the birthday party of adults.

The selection of food for the birthday parties depends on the age of the attendees of the party. There is a huge difference in the choice of kids’ and adults’ food. Adults can have food once during the party, but kids want food many times because they do not eat properly once.

Games are an important part of the parties. Adults can play more complicated games while kids cannot. Although adults like to play childish games sometimes to have more fun and to recall their childhood but usually they play more purposive games. Adults can enjoy even if they are not participating in the games but it is necessary to involve all the kids present in the party to play games. Prizes should be given to all the kids at the end of game.

Music is also an important part of the birthday parties. The choice of music also differs on the basis of age of attendees of the party. So, the differences in the choice must be considered.

Have you ever found yourself having an aversion to something that your friends don’t? Have you ever met a person that you instantly didn’t like for no known reason? Have you ever found yourself having strong reactions to things that make no sense to you? Could past life regression help?

Some people would say that you are merely reacting normally to your past experiences, even though they may have taken place in a different lifetime! Using past regression therapy to understand these experiences can really illuminate the phenomenon.

There are many people who believe that the life that we are living now is not our first one, and that we have had at least one other past life, or lives. They might believe the reincarnation is something that happens until our souls are ready to ascend to something higher or richer, or they may believe that reincarnation happens almost completely at random.

Most people who believe in reincarnation do think that sometimes we retain memories or traces of our previous existences and bring them forward into our current life. This is where it is handy to use past regression therapy.

Past regression therapy is typically conducted under the supervision of a trained hypnotist; the client will be put into a state where their subconscious mind is active and accessible and then they will be asked to remember the things that have happened to them.

In these sessions, many people are able to recall histories and tidbits of facts that they never experienced in this life. Sometimes they can bring up memories from far back in the past that they experienced in another lifetime.

Think about the fact that psychotherapy has to do with the things that you have done and experienced and how they affect you to this day. When you are looking at past regression therapy, you are essentially doing the same thing, only with things that have not happened in this lifetime!

There are many things that might have happened in a past life that were traumatic enough or troubling enough that they have left scars on the mind, or there might simply be echoes that serve to remind you.

There are many who believe that they are reborn with the same group of souls repeatedly. These souls form your family or friends life after life. Having a very strong affinity for someone or being repelled by someone very strongly for no reason may be traced to relationships in past lifetimes.

Just what can you expect to get from trying past regression therapy? You may find it interesting to find out some details that explain why you are you. After all, the more you know about yourself, the better you can deal with the world around you. It has also helped some people deal with unexplained phobias or issues that keep repeating in their lives. Knowing possible causes can help one get over these things.

If you are interested in past regression therapy, there are many practitioners that you can go to and there are even resources online that can show you how to find out more. Take some time and do not miss out on understanding what might be an important part of you.
