The Best Financial Advice In Less Than Ten Words

Posted on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 in Finance

by Robert Dalziel

When it comes to sorting out that stubborn debt or saving up for retirement, many consumers tend to look for long and complicated answers. After all, if the process of getting rid of debt and saving up for retirement can take decades, then that means that the best financial advice should be just as lengthy, right?

Actually, the best financial advice around today isn’t from the best stockbroker in the world – it comes from the oldest sayings in the book! Get ready to simplify your money woes by following these nuggets of wisdom, all of which take up ten words or less:

Always put aside money, no matter how much. It can be easy to think that defeating your debt is all about making as much money as possible, or winning a huge sum from the lottery. However, even the smallest contribution towards your bills is a step towards the financial freedom that you deserve. Small but steady steps will always take you where you need to go, and will turn that raging river of bills into a small trickle in no time.

Know the difference between needs and wants. Thanks to the recession, it’s almost certain that you’ve heard this advice before; however, it couldn’t be more spot on when it comes to straightening out your finances. Needs are things like food, shelter, utilities and other items that make your household work – wants are luxury electronics, brand-name clothes and other splurges that will just plummet you further in the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle.

Buy quality. Sure, being smart with your money is all about finding cheaper purchases when you can; however, if you can comfortably buy a high-quality item, then by all means do so. Why is this, you might ask? Simple: high-quality items are typically backed by a company who will fix the item when it breaks down or ceases to work. This will save you loads of money on maintenance in the long run.

Save today what you want tomorrow. Credit cards have made it all too easy to go out and purchase whatever we want without saving up for it. Yet if you want to break out of the debt cycle, you need to save up for those purchases that you want, as credit card balances will just keep you in that dreaded debt cycle. If you want that expensive mp3 player, then put aside money each month for it, since you’ll feel better listening to it knowing that it’s completely paid off!

If you need money, make more money. Feel like you don’t have enough money to take on your credit card bills? Instead of hoping to win the lottery, go out and make more money! You don’t have to get a second job to see a new income stream; try selling secondhand items to family members and friends, and applying that money to your debt.

Making Luau Decorations – Fun, Easy and Low-Cost

Posted on Monday, July 20, 2009 in Travel

by Ted Felber

In making luau decorations, you get a head start on having fun at your luau party – before the guests get there! Throw a fabulous luau party for any occasion – birthday, graduation, wedding anniversary or even if you have no excuses. You can have a lot of fun and still keep costs to a minimum by being creative with pair of scissors, lots of magazines, a glue stick and an imaginative use of Styrofoam and plastic fish.

Think bright and sunny tropics

Think palm trees, coconut leaves, pineapples, bright tropical flowers such as hibiscus, orchids, frangipani, surfboards, Diamond Head, erupting volcanoes, humpback whales to channel the spirit of Hawaii into your party.

Create collages with pictures of sun-drenched beaches, turquoise blue oceans, beach shacks, sailboats and ocean sunsets to use as party invitations. Send out the invitations in Hawaiian and leave it to your guests to figure out the translation.

Decorate the sides of tables with make-believe grass skirts by cutting green garbage bags into long thin strips not more than 1-1.5″ wide. On a warm day, have a table or ceiling fan working lazily to create an impression of an ocean breeze blowing softly through the hula skirts.

Your luau needs a theme

Use a theme for your luau decorations. How about marine emphasis or beach party theme? Invite the Goddess Pele, to your party. For an ocean theme, find tropical fish that are plastic at a toy store or a party store, then hang them from your ceiling with fishing line.

String them at different lengths to give the illusion, when looking up, that you and your guests are on the ocean floor and the fishes are swimming overhead in the open ocean. Drape plastic seaweed from floor to ceiling, pin up fishing nets on the walls.

To feel like you’re standing on the ocean floor, take cheap white sheets, paint giant clamshells on them, and drape them over your furniture. You can find giant inflatable humpback whales at toy stores and other specialty stores; use one to stand “entry” at the entrance, to greet guests as they come in. This will get them ready for a party.

Beach culture at a luau

Focus on a beach “feel” for your luau decorations. Lowrise tables draped with beach towels, beach balls thrown haphazardly around the room, and beach mats placed on the floor instead of using chairs will give things that definite “beach casual” quality. Have a contest whereby you have guests come in flip-flops they’ve decorated themselves. The person with the most creative design goes home with a Hawaiian prize like a pineapple or a coconut.

And while Hawaii is certainly about casualness, fun and sun, it’s not all that. There’s also a deep and lasting culture of ancient and mystical traditions, which you can also include in your party. You can re-create “old” Hawaii by hanging “ritualistic” wooden masks on the walls or making totem poles out of painted Styrofoam cubes. Old Hawaiian temples called heiaus will give you an idea of what you can do. Find pictures of them to inspire you creative spirit.

You can put your totem poles in the corners of the room, turn the lights down low, and light things indirectly with candles and tiki torches. Place glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling and pretend you’re out under a starry sky, relaxing and having a casual get-together on the beach.

You can also create your own volcano out of chocolate. Of course, everyone’s probably going to want a bite, which is exactly the idea. If you want to make it “smoke,” you can use dry ice. These simple ideals will do a lot to make your party into a luau with not much effort. And with them, you’ll have Hawaii’s deep, enduring spirit with you. Aloha! Remember not to take anything too seriously, and just kick back and have some fun.

Why iMarketing (Internet Marketing) is a Must

Posted on Sunday, July 19, 2009 in Advertising

by Lin K Fong

The term “Internet marketing” refers to the marketing of services and products via the World Wide Web. Internet marketing is often referred to as Web marketing, eMarketing, iMarketing, and online marketing. Regardless, Internet marketing utilizes the massive, virtual audience found on the Web as a way to gain exposure above and beyond the abilities of traditional media marketing. Through Internet marketing entrepreneurs have the ability to not only reach a large audience, but to do so in an unprecedented way.

One of the biggest differences between Internet marketing and traditional marketing is its versatility. Internet marketing can be very inexpensive and yet remain effective. Entrepreneurs can relay information to consumers across the globe with great ease. Furthermore, Internet marketing can be interactive, a trait any marketer can appreciate as this resource is not possible through any other medium. Although Internet marketing has numerous advantages, there are a few disadvantages associated with it. Primarily the disadvantage to Internet marketing is it requires some technical skill and can be time consuming.

No matter who you are or what you are selling, it is important to have some form of Internet marketing program in play. This can be as simple as a Web site or as complicated as a full-blown online marketing campaign that includes banner ads, search engine optimization (SEO), e-mail campaigns, and social media marketing. Regardless, the Internet has the ability to reach consumers that might otherwise be unattainable. By not marketing to the online world, potential sales are lost.

There are several forms of Internet marketing. As preciously mentioned, SEO is one of those forms. Search engine optimization is an effective way to increase traffic to any given Web site. Here is how it works. When a consumer enters keywords into a search engine – such as Google – several Web sites are listed based on the keywords entered. In Internet marketing, entrepreneurs fill their Web sites with keywords specific to their consumers’ needs or interests. These keywords, in turn, are acknowledged by the search engine. The more SEO, the higher the site is ranked and the higher it appears on the search engine’s list.

Another common example of Internet marketing is Google adwords. Adwords is an advertising product sponsored by Google. The program is so successful it became Google’s main source of revenue and generated $21 billion in 2008 alone. Adwords comes in three forms pay-per-click (PPC), banner ads, and text ads. With the PPC, the marketer determines what words trigger the ads and how much they want to pay per click. With the text and banner ads – also called placement targeted advertisements – marketers select domain names, keywords, demographic preferences, and topics via a control panel. Based on this information, Google places ads within its network.

Last but not least, social media marketing is another primary type of online marketing. This type of marketing is exceptionally interesting because it functions much like word of mouth, but on a virtual level. Consumers and advertisers interact via social media sites such as LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. Social media marketing has two features. One, it allows consumers to brag about their favorite products and brands and share their experiences with their friends. Second, consumers can share their favorite links to products and services via links services including Del.icio.us, Reddit, and Digg.

In conclusion, there are countless methods of Internet marketing. This article mentions just three of the many ways entrepreneurs can utilize the World Wide Web in their marketing campaigns. Internet marketing is growing in popularity and is critical as the more traditional forms of marketing are beginning to fade away. Through Internet marketing, it is possible to reach an unparalleled amount of consumers in ways like never before. At the very least, every entrepreneur should make it a point to have some type of Internet presence. Not doing so equals loss of potential profit.

My Experiences With Paddy Power

Posted on Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Gambling

When I first heard my friend had been earning mega bucks on Paddy Power Casino I decided to give it a go. As an UK casino that you can play online, the advantage is that you can play from your front room and earn sometimes large amounts of money. This guy had just earned himself over £500 which he’d used to buy himself a new home multi gym. I tried to stifle my jealousy but sure didn’t mind when he got us all a round of drinks to celebrate.

The next day I signed up to Paddy Power Casino and found the whole system very simple and easy. I was surprised by how many different games there were and had fun trying each one out for free. As a fan of Transformers I particularly enjoyed ‘Transformers Ultimate Payback’ – a game I’ve only seen at one other UK casino since.

After I’d messed around for a while I tried my hand at the Video Poker. I poured myself a Martini so I’d feel more like James Bond and loaded it up. In real life I’m fairly standard at Poker but I was optimistic that this was going to go well. Well I did nearly win that day – I came second. But this was what gave me the incentive to play again and that time I did win… big.  :)
