The island has many beautiful beaches and is very popular with watersports enthuasist's. Anglesey has a wealth of history with ancient sites such as Beaumaris Castle which is located in the town of Beaumaris on the islands east coast. Beaumaris Castle was built over 800 years ago during King Edward I's of England's reign. Beaumaris Castle was sadly never finished but is still considered to be one of the finest examples of its type in the world. There's plenty to do outdoors on Anglesey from activities and farm parks to coastal walks. There are two country parks located near Holyhead on the islands west coast. Penrhos Nature Reserve is a chance to view many of Anglesey's native species and is just a few minutes from the centre of Holyhead. The Breakwater Country Park was built at the same time as Holyhead's breakwater which allowed the town to become a major port. Stretching along the shores of Holyhead mountain the Breakwater Country Park has many country walks you can enjoy. You should also take a walk over to South Stack on the islands western tip which stands on a rocky outcropping reached only by crossing a narrow suspension bridge. With so many terrific beaches watersports are a popular activity on Anglesey. The village of Rhosneigr, which is located on Anglesey's south coast is especially popular. Rhosneigr boasts two excellent beaches which are ideally suited to a variety of watersports such as sailing, canoeing, and diving. Anglesey is not just about self catering and there are a number of high quality hotels available. The Tre Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel is located close to from the town of Llangefni close to the centre of the island. The Trearddur Bay Hotel is just minutes from Holyhead port and ideal as a stop over point and The Bulkeley Hotel is on the promenade at Beaumaris.
