80% Of People Book Over Priced Holidays ” Find Out How To Get The Best Deal In Minutes!

by David Armstrong
Picture this, you pop into your local travel agent pick up some brochures and wait for a holiday advisor to see you. At last you get a seat and do the pleasantries, its now time to find your perfect holiday, unfortunately the first couple of holidays are just above your price range or the location is not what you wanted, but then the perfect holiday comes up but its just not the right time for you. Your starting to feel pressure, thinking will you ever get the holiday you want this season, have you left it too late, surly not, its 6 months from now but all the best holidays are gone. Suddenly when your starting to loose all hope your holiday advisor finds something that has just the right amount of seats for you and your loved ones, also its within your budget, thank goodness for that, even better your holiday advisor with their special know how can even save you a further 6 percent each. Wow; the holiday advisor has been so helpful havent they, this emotional roller coaster leaves you beat, you just buy the holiday and go home feeling like you have achieved something great. If this is you give your self a slap! Yup, its sales person genius, dont feel bad, its happened to me and everyone else I know, best part is you always get a great holiday (well 99 percent of the time) and put your self through it all over again for your next holiday. Surely theres an easier way, yes there is, and Im about to show you how in under two minuets. The key here is to use the Internet for some fast and accurate research, wither you book a holiday on-line or off line, you should know how much your ideal holiday will cost you before you book, after all you would not go into a shop and pay 10bucks for a loaf of bread " Would You? Course Not as you know roughly what the price should be. Holidays are the same, know the rough cost and you will not pay over the odds. So where do you start " best place is either a preferred price comparison web site or if you dont know any, try google, once in google, do a search for your ideal package holiday e.g. package holiday location preferably resort if you know it. Heres what happens, depending on your location, the holiday web sites will list all the tour operators by cheapest first, so the idea here is lets say you like Spain and you would happily go to 7 or 8 resorts, check each resort in turn and you are looking to see if there is one tour operator that constantly has the best prices, you could ether go directly to this tour operator and phone them for the best deals or this will give you the best price to use as a comparison if you go to your local high street who will often beat or price match. If you get no joy, you can always book online, just make sure the web site you book through is ABTA registered and that you book through a debit card (As A Full Refund Will Be Given If The Company Goes Bust Or are Fraud), if you pay your debit card back once your statement comes through, you will not occur interest charges, just check with your bank first.

The History Of Reno’s Mapes Hotel

Posted on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Travel

by Jason Pettygrove
On January 31, 2000, the historic Mapes Hotel in Reno was imploded by 75 pounds of explosives tucked into the art-deco structures support columns. The destruction of the Mapes put an end to years of efforts to preserve the building via lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots action. The National Trust for Historic Preservation took up the cause of the Mapes, and challenged the destruction in a suit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court. While the logic and necessity of demolishing the Mapes is very questionable, one thing that is certain is that the hotel was an important part of Northern Nevada history. The Mapes opened in 1947 and with it ushered in a new era for casino gambling and the state of Nevada. Despite some historical revisionism that suggests that the modern era began in Las Vegas with Bugsy Siegel's famed Flamingo, the Mapes was actually the first building in America to have a hotel, casino and live entertainment under the same roof. The Mapes attracted countless celebrities who'd make it their home when business brought them to Northern Nevada--this included movie stars like Clark Gable, TV stars like the cast of 'Bonanza' and political power brokers like infamous anti-Communist crusader Joseph McCarthy. In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Jackie Gleason, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes continued to do well during the 60's and 70's. The hotel finally closed in 1982, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else. Reno never experienced the massive growth that occurred in Las Vegas and southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands"perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state"is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate. The old properties may have historic value to pop culture historians, but their survival doesn't make economic sense. They're simply 'analog players in a digital world'. This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The city argued that the land on which the Mapes stood was necessary for their redevelopment efforts--a somewhat absurd position given the realities of downtown Reno and the lack of any real development on the property since the demolition. Despite receiving a number of viable concepts for the Mapes Building, the City Redevelopment Authority rejected all of them and the Mapes was destined for demolition. The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which continued to maintain that demolition was the only viable option despite copious evidence to the contrary. Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state.

Juegos en línea con Ukash

Posted on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Games
